Smoking. If anyone could hear me right now I'd be gagging at even thinking of smoking! Personally speaking for myself and no-one else, I think smoking is disgusting. Absolutely nauseating. I can't even begin to describe how grim it is. I am apologising in advance to anyone who smokes so... sorry, I guess?
I cannot begin to get my head around why anybody would want to smoke or even vape. The thought of putting all of those chemicals into your body multiple times a day - why?
So you think you look cool. Or even you want to do it for health and beauty aspects? You know, the whole nicotine-stained fingers, maybe bright yellow teeth? Yes! That is super duper attractive. Or if you're really trying hard, no teeth at all! Amazing. One downside, you might get a little bit of smelly breath, but don't worry, as you can just carry around gum to knock off that yummy tobacco stench. Maybe you could even have nicotine gum for that extra little boost in between your hourly spaced cigarette breaks.
You will now also have a craving for nicotine and will have to smoke at least a pack a day to even tickle your taste.
As I said earlier, you might do it for health aspects. The whole tar-filled lungs or getting more serious illnesses such as pneumonia, chronic asthma, or even getting lung or throat cancer, which on a serious note, could kill you...
It's not even just you who can enjoy the 'benefits' of smoking either. It could be:

It's not even just you who can enjoy the 'benefits' of smoking either. It could be:
- your children, who go to school smelling of smoke
- people on the street, walking behind you as you puff on your cigarette or vape pen, blowing plumes of smoke or cotton candy flavoured smoke into their faces.
This piece is good. There is a large use of statistics and facts, this makes the article more agreeable and it could also help to change a smokers mind. I like the use of emotive language and the use of mixed up formal and informal language and words. For example, words like grim and nauseating. This piece is good, well done.
ReplyDeleteElla,
ReplyDeleteAgree - the use of emotive language is a powerful persuasive tool.

This piece has used rhetorical questions, making people who smoke question themselves about why they do it. 'Maybe bright yellow teeth?' do people find that attractive? of course not, but if that's what they want to do then so be it! This piece of writing has also used opinions which makes the text more interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes - the rhetorical questions do get us thinking and engaging, don't they?

ReplyDeleteHi Xaine,
