Why Homework Should Be Banned

In my opinion, I think homework should be banned.  We have five hours each day of learning and I think that is enough for one day.  Then we get teachers setting homework that you must spend another hour on, which adds up to six hours of learning.  And then, after school, we can't go out with our mates because we have... homework.  I think we do enough learning in the day and don't need any more at night.  When teachers set loads of homework, they forget that we have other teachers and other lessons, and that we have to do other people's homework - all in a certain amount of time.  It gets too much because we have so much homework that we can't keep up as we get so many pieces.  Because we get given so much homework to do in a certain amount of time, we don't have any time to ourselves.  We just get loaded with homework!  We don't want to be doing loads of work in school, then come out of school only to do even more work.  We want tim...

Teenagers Should Be Banned from Social Media

Do you think all teenagers should be banned from social media?  What do you think?  Social media affects every single teenager - some are positive, but many have negative impacts.  First of all, I think that social media has a huge impact on young adults' education.  We as parents should be pushing our children to do the best they can.  Therefore, it is our responsibility to make sure they get to school on time, to get no detentions, and for homework to be completed to the best of their ability.  Just think how many times students are late to school.  What do they do first thing in the morning?  Everyone knoww...  They reach over and look at their phone.  If they didn't have social media to look at, they would be at school on time.  I'm 100% sure.  You (as parents) must agree!  Secondly, statistics show that social media has a huge impact on an innocent teenager's mental health.  Over the years, suicide by teenage...

Freedom of Speech on Social Media

Freedom of speech on social media.  I think there should be a limit to what people online should be allowed to say.  Everyone has opinions.  Clearly I do as I'm writing an article full of my own opinions.  Opinions are good if they actually help someone.  If not, then they're like weapons to the mind, slowly killing a person's self worth.   All you have to do is log in to Instagram and go to the comment section on a post.  Everyone sharing their opinions, whether it's a nice comment or a hateful comment, there they are to be viewed by everyone scrolling.   It's so easy in this modern world to share your opinion online, because there's no physical backlash and you can stay hidden through anonymous accounts which makes it even more dangerous.  The things people say are awful and if they were said at a public place, the person would be immediately told to stop or leave.  But it's not that easy online.   This i...

Instagram Models - Perfection or Not?

Now, I might be a guilty member (but I'm not).  Extreme social media.  Everyone knows what it is and I bet you can name at least five (I know I can).  Yes, I agree there are some good things about social media.  Like you can keep contact with friends and family, meet new people, etc.  But there's just that one thing which really grinds my gears... Models.  I know it seems strange but let me explain.  Many teenagers look up to these people like they're some type of God.  But why?  Nowadays, if you're not like these Instagram-famous models, then people judge you.  They make you feel insecure.  They make you change who you are just so you're 'up to standards'.  But why?  What is the benefit of spending thousands of pounds on surgery just to make your bum bigger so you get 100 likes?  What is the point?  I urge parents, carers, brothers, sisters to stop this happening to their loved ones.  Not everyone has...

It's Time to Stop Stereotypes

"Okay darling, we go to the blue clothes because you're a boy."   You've heard this, I know you have, because unfortunately, as much as I want to deny it, stereotypes are a huge part of life. Not just with children but in daily life.  For example, all teenagers are rude, boys play football and girls play netball, girls wear makeup, and last but not least, all old people crouch over when they walk.  These are all stereotypes that could exist in this world.  We've all done it.  We've all stereotyped certain people without even realising it.  It's what humans do.  But personally, I hate it.  Let's go back to where we started at the whole pink clothes/blue clothes.  Why are we forcing children to wear colours that 'mean' their gender?  As long as the clothes fit the child and the child feels comfortable, they should be able to choose whether they want Spider-Man or butterflies on their t-shirt.  As a child gets older, this chan...

Old People Shouldn't Go Shopping On Saturdays

Before I'm absolutely ridiculed, let me make this clear; I have no problem with the older generation.  In fact, a kind-hearted soul from a different time to yours will often come with an amazing, eye-opening story.  Many of this generation's older people have even done the truly unthinkable for me, and you.  For our country.  Lost loved members of close family, survived pure obliteration, even changed the history of everything we'll ever know.  Just so we can do simple things like massive food shops - you know the kind, on a Saturday morning, you and your family walking around your local supermarket, all with a different idea of the words 'food necessities'.  For some reason, these group outings are simply a day job, a great battle.  Don't even get me started on the toilet paper battle recently.  I can't wait till I have grandchildren - that will be the great, eye-opening story I tell them about!  However, even before all that nonsense, I...

Young Children Should Not Have Mobile Phones

What age did you get a phone?  16?  18?  Well what about when you were five?  Phones are a part of everyone's day to day life.  To call a friend, for directions, even to pay for your shopping!  But what age is it really necessary to have a phone? It is frightening to think about the number of children who have been exposed to the likes of social media, violent video games and phones at an extremely young age.  Do we want their childhood to be lost before it even started?  Their poor, poor minds made to grow up before they experience the world of imaginary friends and stuffed toys that come alive when they leave the room.  Their eyes that see the explicit image of ripping someone apart with a machine gun before they even know how to walk.  Is this what the world has come to?  An imaginary nightmare and this complete delusional world everyone is in together?  I am sure that you will agree that social media is the source of ...

Our Government is Misleading the People of Britain

Recently, Boris Johnson has been telling the country to stay at home so that they can stay safe from the coronavirus.  However, some foolish people do not care about their life and the lives of others around them.  People are still going for walks more than once in a day.  This personally makes me so hateful towards these people as they are acting childishly.  If you are one of these people, do you really want to be the reason that someone that is really close to you dies just because you had to chat to a friend?  On the other hand, some people who are able to work from home are being forced to come into work by their employer.  In my opinion, this is the government's fault as they are not funding small businesses.  This means that the employer will need work done to earn money to buy basic items to stock up in case of a lockdown.  I am sure that you will agree that the government is being too vague and is misleading the people of Britain by a...

Stop World Hunger

What do you and me have in common?  It's not a difficult question to answer.  Like, I can guess that you like food - who doesn't?  And I don't think we appreciate our meals as much as we should.  Do you wake up in the morning and are thankful for a bowl of cereal or are you groaning because you can't make up your mind?  What should it be today - Honey Monster Puffs or Coco Pops?  That's the biggest struggle we have to deal with in the morning, unlike others who work so hard just to find a small amount of food to feed their family to last the whole day, not knowing when their next meal will be.  They go days without eating, as long as they get enough for their kids, who will then then need to go out and risk their lives to get a small handful of coins to support their family.  I bet as soon as your kids come home from six hours of intense learning they dump all their grubby school uniform and hefty school bags at the door, jump on the recently ...

Social Media - It's Up To You

Imagine a world without monsters behind your screen.  Trollers, bullies, vile people.  Wouldn't social media be a great place?  As you know, social media has thousands of benefits to our society today.  For example, advertisements, meeting people, dating, contacting family, applications (for jobs).  Social media today is one of the most used platforms worldwide.  However, it's also one of the most dangerous.  People's nimble fingers typing away, free to say anything.  Anything... Social media is also a damaging thing to society.  Studies show 17% more suicides occur due to cyber-bullying and it's rising very quickly.  That is shocking, no?  How would you feel if that was your daughter, your son, your friend, your family?  Bullies type these message as quickly as possible, forgetting there's a real person behind the screen.  I myself have never experienced it, but it can happen to anyone.  Anything can be sai...

Schools Aren't Perfect

Look, I’m no fan of our current educational system. I feel like I could write an entire speech on the issues with the curriculum alone. That’s not mentioning issues with how children are taught, how bad it can be for mental health, and how little teachers are paid considering the job they do. The single greatest description of school I’ve ever heard is that it’s “a day-care centre, obsessed with an endless game of Trivial Pursuit.” It’s quite an apt metaphor, don’t you think? But, now we’ve been given time away with the whole virtual-learning we have to do, it’s got me to think about the positives of how our schools operate. They aren’t perfect, but they do get some things correct. The sciences seem like a great place to start. Biology, Chemistry and Physics. What a waste of time right? Not quite. Sure, there’s a lot in there that I will forget about the moment I exit the exam hall in June, but a lot of it does a good job of teaching us about the world around us. Starting...

Let's Talk Turtles

Possibly one of the most useless animals within their ecosystem. Yes, they may partly contribute to the well-being of our coral reef, but there are other ways to benefit those, such as using less water or trying to reduce pollution (particularly near the sea). So, my question is: Why on earth did we have to sacrifice one of the greatest inventions this planet has ever witnessed: the plastic straw, just so some meaningless creatures can swim about their daily lives without munching on one, whilst we are stuck up on the surface, trying to enjoy our milkshakes before their obviously inferior replacement quite literally decomposes inside our mouths? Although #savetheturtles did play a large part in their removal from society, environmentalists (as per usual) had another complaint up their sleeve.  Although this one is quite credible, the banning of plastic straws was not the way to go about it once you actually look at the facts. There are 150 million tonnes worth of plastic estima...

Braggers

Braggers. I can’t be the only one who despises braggers, right? Now there are two ways to look at this: my way and a bragger's way. Some people (the braggers) seem to think it is absolutely necessary to brag about anything and everything all day long. And what do I think? I think there is no need to go completely over the top about it . As a 15 year old girl, I understand that when you get a new phone or something, you may want to show it off on your Snapchat story but that should be the end of it. We can all confirm that we do not need to see your new phone every second of every day as it's highly likely the majority of people you’ve shown don’t actually care. By bragging, you are consistently   trying to show everyone that you are better. In reality, you’re probably not. It’s just absurd and rather laughable. What most people don’t think about whilst bragging is the effect it may have on someone else. Some people aren’t fortunate enough to have the latest phone ...
